Born in 1959, Serguei Milstein began his music studies at the age of five. In 1997, he entered the Chaikovsky Conservatorium, in the class of his father, renown Professor Jakov Milstein.
In 1998, he won the second prize at the International "Prague Spring" Piano Competition, in 1991 the third prize at the Vercelli Intenational Competition and in 1997 the first prize at "Torneo Internationale di Musica" (Rome, Italy). Serguei Milstein's concert activities began right away. He then went on touring in Czechoslovakia, in Italy and in Russia.
He performed in international festivals such as "Prague Spring", "Moravia Autumn", Moscow International Music Festival and La Roque d'Antheron International Piano Festival in France. Critics wrote that Serguei Milstein is "not only a great musician, he is also a poet and a magician". Sviatoslav Richter saw in him a "serious musician and a talented pianist".
